A hole in the weave of plans, that is what he found, and he put his hand right through it. That is how I felt New Year’s Day when Mister and I were walking along the water, with a Starbucks in hand. He looked at me and said, “what are you going to do with your life”? A hole, he found it, and put his hand right through it.
I am someone who goes with my gut and with the flow, usually without a sound plan. ‘Just see how it goes’ kind of person. Lately I’ve been more ‘if I want it, I’ve got to go out and get it’ but I do find myself being lazy and waiting for things to come. So when he asked me, “what are you going to do”, I realized my plan had a hole. A huge hole.
I knew what I wanted to do, but I had no plan on how I was going to get there, I just figured one day it would find me in this big universe. Somehow, right, it would?! Highly doubtful. I would probably get passed over. Sad I know.
Since that New Year day, I’ve been really thinking about my plan. How am I going to get from A to B? What steps do I need in place before I can take them? What do I need around me as my support? But most importantly, why am I doing this, what is the purpose? Other then reaching my goal?
And the answer, I need to do it, to prove to myself that I didn’t fail and persevered through it all. That I got the Gold star. So I’m going to put it out in the universe what my goal is. Because if I don’t tell you, how will anyone know?! So….here it goes.

These are questions that few people ever ask themselves, and often just continue through life going from one expected thing to another, without ever evaluating what they truly want. Bravo! You are brave to ask the questions (and answer them) in a public way….already you are an inspiration to me. I am very proud of you!

Hi Lesley, it’s so great to see that are in fact others struggling with similar thoughts. I aspire your will to take on the challenge and your courage to post your thoughts online, which is in a way exposing yourself to potential criticism. Yet I’m convinced it’s the only way to reaching your goal: exposing yourself. Like you say: how else would anyone even know of your existence, let alone why you do what you do. I mention why, because I read on your other blog that you were reading this book ‘Why’. I saw a presentation by the author on the this subject on TEDTalks.com and really started me thinking about consumers and marketing. I really think that this book is a very valuable asset in the process of branding yourself. What also struck me, is how you describe you’d like to assist businesses that are looking for a still too neglected value of helping each other. Indeed, too much is it still a situation of ‘the winner takes it all’, whereas – in my opinion – it’s quite clear that the true, albeit longterm, profit lies in supporting and helping each other, instead of fighting each other over who gets the most customers. It’s wonderful to see that there are like-minded people, and I’m glad I’m reading their blog 🙂 Keep inspiring all of us, please!
